The Reaper's Altar Candle

He stands at the threshold between worlds, cloaked in shadow, hood drawn low — just enough to reveal the hollow gaze of a skull beneath. One hand reaches outward, elbow raised, as if beckoning. The other rests near his chest, patient and still. He has all the time in the world.

Before him stands a stone altar, open book laid flat, a skull resting beside it, and a serpent whose head rises from the altar's surface and winds its way around the back of the candle in a slow, deliberate coil. Beside the altar, another skull keeps watch, and beneath the table, a pendulum hangs — forever mid-swing. Behind the Reaper, a window opens to the world outside, framed by walls and a base that look like ancient, weathered logs. He stands on them like he owns the earth itself.
